Types of Braces

Specialist Orthodontic Treatment

Patients have different needs and concerns

At Tōtara Orthodontists we understand that different patients have different needs and concerns when it comes to their orthodontic treatment. An adult patient may have quite different priorities than a child, for example. That’s why we offer several different types of braces and treatment options.

Metal Braces

Totara Orthodontists

Metal braces which are made from high grade stainless steel are the most common braces. The wire is attached to the braces with rubber ties that come in a huge variety of fun colours. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.

Ceramic Braces

Totara Orthodontists

Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal.

Invisalign®

Totara Orthodontists

The Invisalign system is a series of clear overlay templates – called aligners – that are generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult and teenage patients with certain orthodontic bite problems.

Retention

Totara Orthodontists

When braces are removed, we use retainers to maintain your orthodontic correction and help keep your teeth straight. This retention phase lasts for a minimum of 24 months. The final orthodontic result depends on daily use of the retainers.
