We might have a new name, but for the team at Totara Orthodontics, everything is very much business as usual.
“We’re still at the same convenient location close to Lynnmall and the New Lynn train and bus transport hubs,” says Specialist Orthodontist Fiona Turner.”
The latest in orthodontics
Fiona says the clinic’s commitment to providing achievable orthodontics hasn’t changed, and she continues to embrace the latest orthodontic treatments. Examples include Invisalign which uses near-invisible mouthguard-like aligners and SureSmile which applies the skill of your orthodontist with 3-D visualisation and robotic precision.
“Also, a couple of years ago, for the convenience of our patients, we introduced smartphone-based Dental Monitoring. By connecting to the app, you can take photos of your teeth and send them to the clinic. We then monitor the movement of your teeth, and if everything is as it should be, you don’t need to come and see us,” says Fiona.
Dr. Fiona Turner
Fiona Turner has been with the clinic since the beginning. Having become a Specialist Orthodontist in 1999, Fiona has lived and worked in West Auckland for nearly 20 years. She actively keeps up to date with her profession by participating in regular professional development. And she is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association, New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, World Federation of Orthodontists as well as a founding supporter of the charitable arm of the NZAO — Wish for a Smile Trust.
What’s in a name?
Fiona says that the condition of our teeth impacts a great deal on self-esteem, so her goal is to create long-lasting smiles that her patients can wear confidently throughout their lives.”
“The name ‘Tōtara’ symbolises longevity and durability — we take our patients on a great journey to achieve lasting results.”
New faces
Totara Orthodontics’ services and location remain the same. However, as we all know, life moves on. And clinic recently welcomed some new faces.
“In part to cover maternity leave — a couple of the team are currently busy having babies — as well as for the new entity.”
Danielle Hodgkinson
We are very happy to welcome our new Speialist Orthodontist Danielle Hodgkinson. Danielle is New Zealand-born and trained and has strong links in West Auckland.
Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago in 2013, she worked at Auckland, Greenlane, and Middlemore Hospitals, and in private and community-based clinics.
Danielle enjoys all aspects of clinical orthodontics, especially the positive impact a beautiful smile can have on people’s lives. She is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, the New Zealand Dental Association and is an orthodontist for the Wish for a Smile Trust.
“I look forward to building Totara Orthodontics with Danielle and the team to meet the West Auckland community’s growing needs,” says Fiona.
